Thanks to everyone who drove or offered to drive for the Mt. Hood Railroad. This week we are off to the Bonneville Dam and it should be an exciting trip as well. Those of you who are driving it will not be necessary to arrive early like the last field trip. We will be leaving school at 8:45 and returning by 1:30. Please remember to bring a sack lunch and car seats (boosters).

NO SCHOOL
Just wanted to give everyone a reminder that next Thursday and Friday (10/11-12) there will be no school because of our annual Staff Retreat.
SLEEPOVER
The K.1.2 sleepover is coming up and will be on Thursday, October 18. Students will leave school at normal time on the 18th and return at 6:30 for a Sleepover. We will have activities, a potluck and a bedtime story for the students. We will also provide breakfast and students who make it through the night can be picked up the next day at noon like any other Friday. Students will need to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, change of clothes and other nighttime essentials. It should be a lot of fun. Any parents interested in chaperoning will be greatly appreciated. Just let us know if you can come.
VOLUNTEERS
If you are interested in volunteering in the classroom on a consistent basis then please contact me at school. I can always use an extra hand, copy help, or other odd jobs to help the school day go a little smoother.
Talk to ya'll soon.

Week of September 24th
A huge thank you to Megan and Matt for hosting the potluck this weekend. I know it is hard to prepare your home for a bunch of people to come over, but it was great as always. I love hanging out with all you guys. We have such a great community! Next time we will shoot for a park setting.
HOMEWORK
Spelling Words: Same as last week. Spelling Bee on Friday.
Write your words in ABC order if you can.
Measure yourself at home. How many inches are you? How many centimeters? What about your parents, brothers or sisters?
Create a map of your bedroom.
MT. HOOD FIELD TRIP
Okay, this field trip is a biggie. We have to travel 60 miles down I-84 and arrive as close to 9:30 as possible. I am asking everyone to try and arrive to school at 8:15 on Thursday so we can get everyone on the road by 8:30. Please make sure that your student is there by 8:30 at the latest or else we may have to leave them behind. If you are running late please call my cell phone at 503-201-5550. Also, DON"T FORGET BOOSTERS AND CARSEATS!!! It is the law for kids to be in them.
SCIENCE FRIDAYS
I know I put a sign telling everyone to sign up but then failed to mention it at parent night or explain myself whatsoever. There will be a binder on the shelf next to the white cabinet this week for families to sign up for weekly science demonstrations in the class on Friday. There are two science experiment books in the binder and if you sign up then you take those home and work an experiment with your student. Then, on Friday, we have a demonstration. Please sign up if you can.
SNACK
So we figure that in our class we are basically doubling our snack budget compared to the rest of the K12 classes. We have about $400 budgeted but we anticipate needing close to 800. I have told Nephyr that my budget for snack is higher because I believe food is extremely important to learning so I take other money out of my supply budget. This leaves us with about $200 unaccounted for in our class's yearly snack budget. Over the length of the year I am sure we will obtain this through donations to the snack folder. Just thought I would update you guys and let you know the 411. The snack donation folder is taped on the side of the white jackets cabinet. Thanks.
Walking Field Trips
We will be taking a walking field trip to the North Portland Library soon and I am looking for a volunteer or two for either this Thursday or next Thursday. Let me know if either works for you. Thanks
There will be no Garden class this week.
Also, we will be having some extra help this week and through December at least. My friend Ken is looking to get some experience in the classroom to pursue certification and it should be great to have him. He will be helping during Menu groups from 9:15 to 10:15 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If you have any questions, then just let me know.

We hope to see as many people as possible and like I said before there is a great family festival at Penninsula Park for the whole day. It would be a great pre-potluck event for the fam. Here is the address.
